| Resumo | This present study shows an unpublished research about heat fluxes patterns of the ocean-atmosphere interaction processes during the passage of an extratropical cyclone in the Atlantic Southwest in 02 to 05 of September 2006. The event created an intense storm surge in southern Brazils coast with a great horizontal displacement of the tide. A system of coupled regional models of the ocean and atmosphere (ROMS+WRF) and a regional atmospheric model (WRF) was used to simulate the extratropical cyclone event. A brief evaluation of the simulated output was made by comparing the simulated air temperature, wind speed and sea level pressure data with in situ (weather station) data. This comparison showed that both models have some bias (mainly wind), but the simulated output showed quite satisfactory results, allowing a good analysis of ocean-atmosphere interaction processes. The simulated thermal gradient increases the oceans heat fluxes to the atmosphere in the cold sector of the extratropical cyclone and, through the convergence of low levels winds, the humidity is transported to higher atmospheric levels, producing high amounts of water precipitation. The coupled system models showed a greater ability to simulate the intensity and trajectory of the extratropical cyclone, compared within the atmospheric model simulation. |
